The Arab daily PHILISTINE proposes that the Arabs who are not satisfied with Sir Herbert Samuel’s policy, appeal to the League of Nations. The publication is incensed because the Government has paid no attention to the resolution of the Arab Economic Conference.
The PHILISTINE suggests that the Arab representatives demand that the Government lift all land taxes which have remained in force since Turkish times. The paper advises that a copy of this demand be sent to every member of the British Parliament, the Arabs meantime not to pay taxes. If the Government answers in the affirmative, well and good; if not, the Arabs can then appeal to the League of Nations against the British Government. The final threat of the paper reads: “If the League of Nations accedes to our demand, well and good; if not, the land is ours, and our efforts alone are sufficient to accomplish our ends.”
