Sholom Schwartzbard, who was on his way from Paris to Jerusalem, landing at Beirut, was refused admittance to Syria by an order of the French authorities in Paris.
Schwartzbard had planned to wait in Syria for permission to enter Palestine, visa having been refused him. Barred from Palestine and Syria he was compelled to return to France.
