Ephraim Schwartzmann today announced his resignation as national secretary of the Jewish Peoples’ Committee and from the Communist Party, ascribing his action to the Soviet-Nazi pact which he said had put an end to the united front policy preached so long by the communists in the fight against fascism. Schwartzmann, who had been secretary of the organization since its inception in 1936 and a member of the Communist Party since 1924, said he could no longer continue to work with an organization which defended the Hitler-Stalin agreement “which condemned 2,500,000 Jews to pogroms, murder and concentration camps.”
