Secretary of Labor James P. Mitchell called on the nation’s businessmen today to end racial and religious discrimination in employment. Mr. Mitchell was a speaker at a conference here of some 65 presidents and board chairmen of large American concerns sponsored by the President’s Committee on Government Contracts. Vice President Richard M. Nixon presided.
Secretary Mitchell told the businessmen that elimination of discrimination based on race or religion would strengthen America’s position abroad. He asserted that much progress had been made in eliminating discrimination in employment, but that it existed in respect to the promotion of employees.
