The 15-member Security Council was scheduled to meet at 3 P.M. tomorrow to consider a Jordanian complaint of alleged Israeli violations of Arab rights in East Jerusalem. In its complaint, Amman alleged that Israel was guilty of arbitrary arrests, detentions, torture, demolition of Arab homes, forcible evictions and deportations.
The meeting will be the first in nearly three months on the Mideast. Some Council members tried to dissuade Jordan from requesting the session in order to avoid breaking a “gentlemen’s agreement” not to raise Mideast issues in the Council while the Big Four continued to try to find a peace settlement formula. The Four–the U.S., Britain, Soviet Union and France–were to meet again this week before a summer recess, sources here said. While the Ambassadors will not confer, their deputies will continue to do so, the informants said.
