A special fire-relief committee to aid the Jews who suffered from the great fire that occurred in the city of Hatin, Bessarabia, on May 25, leaving many Jews in great need, was appointed Wednesday at a meeting in Astoria Hall, called for that purpose by a temporary committee.
The meeting was addressed by Leo Wolfson, president of the United Roumanian Jews of America and others. Mr. Wolfson emphasized the importance of immediate action for the worthy cause. Letters describing the dreadful situation of the Jews in Hatin were read, moving many of the audience to tears. A collection was made and the special committee will now seek to raise more funds for the relief of the Hatin Jews.
