Left Wing Refuses Schlesinger Peace Proposal
Negotiations for the conclusion of a new trade agreement between the employers and workers in the garment industry are being carried on as the date of the present agreement’s expiration is nearing.
The American Cloak and Suit Manufacturers’ Association, replying to the demand of the International Ladies’ Garment Workers Union, rejected the proposals made by the Union. The manufacturers association wishes to have the piece work system introduced. A new conference with Union officials is to be held in which all factors in the industry will participate.
According to reports in the Yiddish Communist daily, “Freiheit,” leaders of the Left Wing are unwilling to accept the proposal for peace within the union made by Benjamin Schlesinger, recently elected president. Schlesinger proposed to heal the breach by readmitting the excluded members on the condition that they abstain from injecting political doctrines into the Union’s activities.
