Dr. David Lwowitch, one of the leaders of the ORT organization, left for Moscow today to discuss with Soviet officials the possibilities of settling German-Jewish refugees as well as Polish Jews in Biro-Bidjan, the Far Eastern Jewish autonomous Soviet district.
Dr. Lwowitch expressed the belief that he will reach a definite agreement with the Soviet authorities on the basis of which colonization will soon be started in the Bureya by Jewish families from Poland and Jewish refugees from Germany.
MIGRATION GROWING
The migration movement to Biro-Bidjan is now assuming larger proportions among Polish Jewry, despite liquidation of the Agro-Yid, organization which had been formed to stimulate Polish Jews to emigrate to the Soviet Far East. The Agro-Yid was dissolved by the Polish government under the pretext that it did not work in accordance with the provisions of its by-laws.
With the approaching Spring it is expected that many Jewish families from Poland, reduced to complete poverty, will try to make their way to Biro-Bidjan independently. Many Jewish artisans in Poland who have been unemployed for years see their only chance in Biro-Bidjan, where they believe they can establish themselves without any difficulty.
