Dr. Philip L. Seman, general director of the Jewish People’s Institute, has been appointed chairman of the Chicago Recreation Commission by Mayor Kelly.
Dr. Seman has been chairman of the Parks, Forest Preserves, and Public Recreation Committee of the City Club for the past fifteen years, and chairman of the Committee on Recreation and Physical Education.
It is the Mayor’s intention that this Recreation Commission shall act as an advisory committee to the new consolidated Chicago Park Commission, in addition to many other responsibilities and interests. Among its other duties the Commission will study Chicago’s recreational facilities: private, public and commercial, and develop a program in terms of recreation for all the people of Chicago, rather than any specific age, sex, or race group.
