Sen. Joseph Lieberman (D-Conn.) said offensive comments made by leaders of the Nation of Islam are not a reason to deny the group participation in the faith-based initiative program proposed by President Bush. Lieberman, speaking in Washington, said he supports charitable choice, but said Bush “has fallen short” on explaining the details of his plan and how it will avoid violating the separation of church and state.
