Senator Justin Godart, 84, died here this week-end. His death brought to a close a career closely associated with activities in behalf of Jews the world over. Sen Godart, himself a Catholic, had served as president of the League for the Defense of Jewish Rights, honorary president of the OSE and president of ORT’s parliamentary committee.
In 1934, in his capacity as the president of the League for the Defense of Jewish Rights, he conducted the successful negotiations that ultimately led to the settlement of 10,000 Eastern European Jews in Syria, Most recently, Sen. Godart organized and became president of the World Committee for the Establishment of the Tomb of the Unknown Jewish Martyr in Paris.
