A Rosh Hashanah prayer, offered by Senator Kenneth B. Keating, New York Republican, marked the opening of the meeting of the Senate on Rosh Hashanah. Senate Democratic leader Mike Mansfield, of Montana, expressed appreciation for the prayer offered by Sen. Keating.
“It was most moving and touching, and I think it was in the best possible taste, ” Sen. Mansfield said. He expressed belief that the Senate was indebted to Sen. Keating for the prayer voiced in the Senate Chamber. The House of Representatives conducted no business because of the Jewish holiday.
