United States Senator Royal S. Copeland will address a boycott conference Sunday afternoon at the Hotel Astor under the auspices of the American League for the Defense of Jewish Rights, it was announced yesterday. The purpose of the conference is to organize and coordinate boycott activities directed against the Nazis in Germany.
The American Jewish Legion, composed of World War veterans who fought in the British army in Palestine under Lord Allenby, has adopted a resolution supporting the boycott movement and the conference.
A cablegram has been received by Dr. Abraham Coralnik, chairman of the provisional boycott committee of the league, from M. Lecache, head of the French Anti-Nazi Boycott Committee, commending activities to establish a strong boycott here.
A protest was filed with the District Attorney’s office yesterday by the National Committee to Aid the Victims of German Fascism as a result of an attempt Tuesday by two detectives to raid the offices of the committee, allegedly in an investigation of organizations soliciting funds for charitable purposes.
Alfred Wagenknecht, executive secretary of the committee, said the organization had been established recently to raise funds for the relief of “victims of the Hitler terrorism in Germany and to disseminate the truth about the continuing outrages of the Nazi rule, much of which is withheld from publication because of censorship imposed.”
He said the organization was affiliated with similar groups in England and France.
