Fifty-six senators wrote a letter to Israeli Ambassador Zalman Shoval this week reaffirming their “commitment to help Israel defend herself” during any war in the Persian Gulf.
“At this time of danger and uncertainty, we write to express our heartfelt support for and solidarity with our most stalwart and democratic ally in the region,” they said in a letter written by Sen. Connie Mack (R-Fla.) and sent Monday.
The senators said they hope “in the after-math of this crisis, our nations can work together toward our common goal of direct talks leading to peace treaties between Israel and her neighbors.”
Of the 56 senators who signed the letter, 43 were Republicans and 13 were Democrats.
