Funeral services will be held tomorrow at Temple ##anu-El here, for Abram L. Elkus, diplomat, jurist and Jewish communal leader, who died yesterday at his summer home in Red Bank, New Jersey. He was 80 years old.Mr. Elkus, a native New Yorker, was educated in the public schools of this city, City College of New York and Columbia University. He had a distinguished career is a lawyer behind him when he was named Ambassador to Turkey in 1916. He served in that post until the U.S. declaration of war against the Central Powers. While serving in various legislative commissions, he drafted precedent-setting legislation on child labor, conditions of work for women and bankruptcy cases.
Mr. Elkus was a trustee of the Baron de Hirsch Fund, a vice-president of the Jewish Publication Society, president of the Free Synagogue for many years and a founder of the Jewish Institute of Religion. He also served as a member of the New York Board of Regents.
