Seth Hurwitz, a freshman at Bennington College, a small liberal arts school in southwestern Vermont, began his two-month internship at the Jewish Telegraphic Agency this week. Hurwitz, 18, of West Hartford, Conn., said that the internship will offer him a “rare opportunity to learn how a Jewish news agency operates, and should make me more aware of my Jewish background.”

Hurwitz, a possible English major interested in both general and Jewish reporting, said he sought to intern at JTA because it is “one of the strongest forces in the Jewish media, and works to keep Jews and non-Jews alike informed on issues concerning Jews and Israel which may be ignored or played down by the larger press agencies.” As an intern, he will be involved in reporting, rewriting, interviewing and covering meetings.

Hurwitz explained that during the months of January and February, the Bennington campus shuts down for the Non-Resident Term (NRT), when students are expected to go out into the “real world” and find a job, either paying or volunteer, which is closely related to his/her field of study.
