Bedouins are being settled on a reclaimed tract which formerly constituted the swamp known as the Bassat, or Sheikh Muhamed, on the Wadi Hawareth land, but which now has been completely drained, it was announced here today.
The tract, which is about 500 dunams (approximately 125 acres) in area, is being placed at the Bedouins’ disposal under the government development plan.
These tenants declined to leave this district for superior land offered by the government in the Beisan district, apparently because they found employment as carriers in this vicinity easily obtainable from Jewish farmers in Hedera and elsewhere.
They are now expected to settle on the drained swamp land, which the government is assisting them to plow.
