Seven Jewish Defense League members were arrested and indicted yesterday on charges of conspiring to bomb the offices of the Soviet export-import agency, Amtorg Trading Corporation, on April 2, Two of the defendants were also charged with attempting to bomb on June 12 the Soviet Mission’s estate in Glen Cove, Long Island. Police found the bomb on the estate before it could go off but a bomb damaged the office of the Soviet trade agency.
Six of the defendants were taken into custody by agents of the Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms Division of the Treasury Department and by city policemen. The seventh defendant. Avraham Hershkowitz, is currently serving a five-year term in the federal penitentiary in Lewisburg, Pa. on charges in connection with an alleged attempt to hijack an airplane last Sept. Five of the defendants were released in $10.000 personal bond after posting 10 percent of that amount. The sixth defendant was released on his own recognizance.
