Seven University Presidents on Committee Sponsoring Dinner in Tribute to Einstein

Over three hundred nationally-known leaders in public affairs, science, education, industry, art and letters, have joined the Committee which will sponsor the Tribute Dinner to be given to Professor Albert Einstein on the occasion of his only public appearance in New York on March 15th at the Hotel Commodore. The list of names was given out yesterday by Dr. A. S. W. Rosenbach, president of the American Friends of the Hebrew University, under whose auspices the Tribute Dinner will be given.

Seven university presidents have accepted places on the Committee and are expected to be present—among them Dr. John Grier Hibben of Princeton, President Robert M. Hutchins of the University of Chicago, Chancellor Elmer E. Brown of New York University, President Frederick B. Robinson of the College of the City of New York, and President Mary E. Woollcy of Mount Holyoke.

President Frederick P. Keppel of the Carnegie Corporation; Dr. Abraham Flexner, Director of the Institute for Advanced Study, which Professor Einstein will join in the Fall; Dean William F. Russell of Teachers College; Professors John Dewey, Michael I. Pupin and James T. Shotwell of Columbia; Professors Felix Frankfurter, and Harlow Shapley, the distinguished astronomer, of Harvard; Dr. Vernon L. Kellogg, biologist, and Dr. George Crile, noted surgeon, are also on the Committee.

Governor Wilbur L. Cross of Connecticut, Senator Arthur Capper, Secretary Ray Lyman Wilbur; Alanson B. Houghton, former Ambassador to England and to Germany; Bainbridge Colby, former Secretary of State; Federal Judge Learned Hand, Judge Julian W. Mack, and Judge Irving Lehman of the Court of Appeals, are among the men in public life who have joined the Committee.

Leaders in finance and industry on the Committee include Chairman Myron C. Taylor of the United States Steel Corporation, Clarence H. Mackay, Thomas W. Lamont, S. Parker Gilbert, Simon Guggenheim, David Sarnoff of the Radio Corporation of America, William Fellowes Morgan, and Floyd L. Carlisle.

The publishing world is represented by Adolph S. Ochs, publisher, and Louis Wiley, business manager, of the New York Times; Frank E. Gannett, William Allen White, Henry Goddard Leach, Henry R. Luce, editor of Time; Bruce Bliven of the New Republic; Oswald G. Villard of the Nation; Paul Block, and Alfred A. Knopf, among others.

Governor Herbert H. Lehman and Felix M. Warburg are the honorary chairmen of the Tribute Dinner.

Dr. Einstein will make his return trip to Europe by way of New York City for the sole purpose of being present at the dinner, Dr. Rosenbach announced. He will arrive in New York on the morning of March 15th, and will sail on the S. S. Deutschland immediately following the Dinner.
