Several American scholars and archaeologists are participating in the international Congress of archaeologists which opened here yesterday. Professor Ralph Van Deman Magossin, and Mr. Melvin G. Kyle of the Archaeological Institute of America, Professor William Frederick Bade of the University of California, Professor George Grant MacCurdy of Yale and Mr. Russel of the American School of Pre-historic Research are attending the sessions.
The University of Edinburgh is represented by Professor G. B. Brown and Professor Archibald Kennedy and Oxford University by Professor Archibald Sayee. The delegates will proceed to Beirut on Wednesday when the sessions of the Congress will be held there.
Local delegates at the sessions include Miss Levy, representing the London University, Professor Garstand of Liverpool University and Professor Albright of the Johns Hopkins University.
At a banquet attended by fifty motion picture producers and directors in Los Angeles, Cal., at which Louis B. Mayer of the joint campaign in Los Angeles presided, thirty thousand dollars was subscribed. Mr. Mayer headed the list with five thousand and Sol Lesser fifteen hundred. This banquet marked the first effort in the Los Angeles campaign.
