Several world leaders are expressing a “wait-and-see” attitude to the election of Ariel Sharon as Israel’s next prime minister, according to Shula Bahat, acting executive director of the American Jewish Committee. Leaders have indicated to AJCommittee officials that they would base their judgments on Sharon’s future performance as premier, not his controversial past.
