The severest drought in 30 years has caused damage to winter crops estimated at four million pounds ($11,200,000), Y. Efrati, Deputy Minister of Agriculture, reported here today.
In areas of the Negev, he said , 70 to 80 percent of the normal crop was lest. However, the Galilee, one of Israel’s most fertile areas, was not seriously affected by drought conditions, he added. The government will aid farmers affected by the drought by extending leans and deferring collection of land taxes.
