Prime Minister Yitzhak Shamir was operated on for a hernia Tuesday and pronounced “OK” afterward by his surgeon, Dr. Arye Durst, who described the procedure as simple and easy.
The 74-year-old prime minister was admitted Monday to Hadassah-Hebrew University Hospital, and he is expected to stay there a few days to rest up.
Shamir was conscious during the operation, which was performed under a local anesthetic.
