Prime Minister Yitzhak Shamir claimed Tuesday that the dialogue the United States opened with the Palestine Liberation Organization last December has only strengthened the PLO’s motivation to fight against Israel.
He made his remarks to reporters while touring the Lebanon border region, the scene of four terrorist infiltration attempts in the past week, in which nine terrorists and one Israeli soldier were killed.
The prime minister maintained there was a link between the increased infiltration activity from Lebanon and the Palestinian uprising in the West Bank and Gaza Strip.
He blamed the PLO, which he said has no real desire to prevent terrorist attacks on Israel.
