Jews should not fear Nasser’s designs against Israel but should, rather, beware of their own indifference to Israel when they fail to contribute adequately to the United Campaign, Moshe Sharett, chairman of the Jewish Agency executive, declared here last night.
He and General Joseph Avidar, Israel’s Ambassador to Argentina, were among the principal speakers at a giant rally at the Metro Theatre, where the Argentine Jewish community opened its United Campaign and, simultaneously, began celebrating Israel’s 15th anniversary. The anniversary celebrations in this country are scheduled to extend over the next two weeks.
Mr. Sharett hailed the increasing immigration of Jews from Latin America to Israel. He noted that, only a few days ago, a ship carrying Brazilian and Argentine immigrants to Israel landed in Haifa, declaring “the second and third generations of those who came to South America instead of to Palestine are now reuniting with their brethren in Israel.”
