Israel Premier Moshe Sharett conferred today with the Turkish Ambassador to Israel, Sefkati Istinyeli, on the implications for Israel of the projected Turkish-Iraq defense alliance. It is understood that during the conversation, Mr. Sharett stressed the deep friendship of Israel and Turkey and drew attention to several clauses of the projected pact which he felt had an anti-Israel sound, Mr. Sharett is understood to have said that while Turkey is free to negotiate and sign agreements with whomever she pleases, he hoped that such pacts would not affect Turkish-Israel relations.
