The White House announced today that President Eisenhower has arranged an appointment with Israel Foreign Minister Moshe Sharett at noon on April 9 at the White House. It will be the first meeting of the two men. Informed sources believe that prospects for Arab-Israel peace and the creation of a Middle Eastern defense command against Communism will be discussed.
The Defense Department confirmed that Mr. Sharett will participate in another important meeting on the same day as he meats the President. He is to confer with Secretary of Defense Charles E. Wilson and Gen. Omar N. Bradley, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
On April 8 Mr. Sharett will call on Henry A. Byroade, Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs, after meeting earlier that day with Secretary of State John Foster Dulles.
On April 10, Mr. Sharett will address a luncheon meeting of the National Press Club. Important Government leaders and diplomats will attend the luncheon.
Mr. Sharett, who is to arrive in New York tomorrow afternoon, will spend several days here in consultation with the Israel United Nations delegation and in other conferences. He will leave Washington April 12 for a visit to Uruguay, Argentina, Chile and Brazil.
