Moshe Shertok, head of the political department of the Jewish Agency, told the second session of the Conference of European Zionist Federations here that “maybe the UNSCOP will acknowledge Jewish rights in Palestine, but there is no certainty that any action will be taken.”
Presenting a political report on the Palestine situation in which he strongly condemned the activities of the Irgun Zvai Leumi–during which he was frequently interrupted by members of the audience–Shertok declared that the current Palestine situation is “untenable and that immediate solution of the problem is urgent not only for the Jewish community of Palestine, but also for Jews throughout the world.”
Dr. Moshe Sneh, member of the Agency executive, addressing the delegates from 14 countries, stated that “British imperialism strengthened the Arabs against the Jews,” and, commenting on the recent wave of anti-Jewish outbreaks in England, said: “Bevin is the spiritual inciter of these riots because he described Zionism as the Jewish fight against Christianity.” Declaring that “we must seek friends in the East and West,” and that it is “urgent that we find Allies in Asia,” Dr. Sneh stated that a “good solution could not be forthcoming from Britain because she does not support a Jewish state under any circumstances.”
