Shimon Peres said Palestinian democracy is not a prerequisite for peace with Israel. “It is not clear to me that peace should be conditional on democracy. This strikes me as a little odd,” the Labor Party chairman said in a speech Tuesday at an annual policy conference in Herzliya, Israel. “According to this, we should not have made peace with Egypt and Jordan, and that is inconceivable.”
