Ancient Scrolls of the Law and other religious articles gathered in an Aden camp from which Yemenite Jews were transferred by air to Israel have arrived in the Jewish state by ship, it was revealed during the weekend. The prayer books, Torahs and other articles were taken from Aden to the Israel port of Elath, on the Gulf of Aqaba.
Accompanying the cargo was M.A. Lapides, Joint Distribution Committee director in the Aden transit camp, who reportedly had believed for a long time that it was possible to transport immigrants from Aden by sea to Aqaba. The route passes through Saudi Arabian and Egyptian areas. No interference of the vessel’s trip was reported; however, it was held uncertain here whether this meant that the Egyptian and Saudi Arabian governments would henceforth permit Aqaba-bound vessels to proceed unmolested.
