A suggestion that Swedish ships now being used to carry mercy shipments of food to Greece be utilized for transporting Jewish refugees from the Axis-occupied countries is made by the London correspondent of the Svenska Morgenbladet in an article appearing in that paper today.
The correspondent, Bjogn Hallstrom, points out that the Swedish ships pick up the food destined for Greece mainly in Canadian ports. These vessels, which usually return empty, “could be used to save Jews in the Balkans and other occupied countries,” he writes.
Hallstrom states further that he has been informed that circles in London which are interested in rescuing as many of the European Jews as possible, support this proposal. According to information available here, there are about seven Swedish ships engaged in transporting supplies to Greece and it is planned to put more in operation.
