Sholem Asch, noted Jewish writer, told an audience here today that he had never placed himself outside Jewry. “I never left you,” he said with tears in his eyes. “All I have done-I have done in God’s name and wrought for the love of Israel. All you have heard is totally untrue and unfounded. My enemies did that.”
Mr. Asch spoke at the first public meeting held in his honor since his arrival here. The meeting was arranged by Jews from Kutna, the Polish town where Mr. Asch was born, and was attended by about 300 natives from there. In his address, the Jewish author urged the audience to forget their native towns in Poland and devote all their energies to Israel.
