Sidney R. Rabb, noted Boston Jewish communal leader, was awarded an honorary Master of Arts degree today at Harvard University’s 311th annual commencement.
The citation to Mr. Rabb, a past campaign chairman and executive committee member of the Combined Jewish Philanthropies of Greater Boston, read: “A loyal son of Harvard, his managerial talent and high social responsibility advance the interests of his native city.” Mr. Rabb is also chairman of the Beth Israel Hospital of Boston, is a Harvard Medical Center trustee and president of the Boston Pubic Library.
An honorary doctorate of science was awarded by Harvard University to Dr. Herman L. Blumgart, physician-in-chief and director of medical research at Beth Israel Hospital, a constituent agency of the CJP, and professor of medicine at Harvard. The citation read: “Distinguished physician, Harvard teacher, imaginative experimentalist, his ear is ever attuned to the heartbeat of mankind.”
