Simple rites marked the funeral today of Rabbi Alessandro Dafano, a personal friend of the Pope, whom he taught the Hebrew language, and president of the Board of Rabbis of Italy. Rabbi Dafano died yesterday at the age of 88.
No eulogies were delivered at the funeral and no flowers were laid on his grave in accordance with the rabbi’s last will. Instead, gifts were made to Jewish schools of Milan.
Representatives of the municipality and of numerous Jewish communities in Italy were among the large crowd attending the funeral.
