Sir Leonard Lionel Cohen, forced by the state of his health to resign from the presidency of the Jewish Colonization Association (ICA) which he has headed for about five years, was elected honorary president of the association at its annual meeting here today.
Sir Osmond E. d’Avigdor-Goldsmid will succeed Sir Leonard as president of the ICA.
“There are faint indications to justify hopes that more normal conditions will not be delayed for long,” Sir Leonard said in reporting on the activities of the ICA during the past year. “Our efforts for alleviating our unfortunate co-religionists have not been in vain. Indeed, during 1933, a year of gloom, persecution and mourning for Jewry, the ICA discharged its duty, healing many wounds through colonization, through emigration, through direct financial help and through the promotion of technical industries.
