Sir Samuel Joseph, the first Jew to be elected Lord Mayor of London in forty years, and the city’s fourth war-time mayor, was inducted into office today without the pomp and pageantry usually connected with the occasion. A parade of youth organizations, including a contingent from the Jewish Lads Brigade, which was marching in the Lord Mayor’s procession for the first time in its history, marked the induction. Prime Minister Churchill joined the procession for a short distance.
