Joseph Sisco, the Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs, will go to Teheran, Iran next month for a meeting with the chief of the United States Mission in the Middle East, the State Department announced today. He will leave on April 20 or 21 and will be accompanied by Undersecretary of State Elliot Richardson. State Department spokesman Robert J. McCloskey said Mr. Sisco had no plans to travel in the Middle East before or after his Teheran meeting but added that it was “always possible.” However he ruled out the chance that Mr. Sisco would visit Cairo. Mr. McCloskey said the meeting in Teheran was part of the regular regional meetings at which U.S. envoys in a given region consult with senior State Department officials. He said the last such meeting was held in Africa.
