The situation of the inhabitants of Sofia’s Jewish quarter is deteriorating daily, and as yet no assistance is in sight. Starved and naked children, with despairing eyes, live with their equally miserable parents in overcrowded, unsanitary quarters.
David Ben-Gurion, chairman of the executive of the Jewish Agency, who is here to consult with Jewish leaders and government officials on the emigration of Jews to Palestine, was so appalled by the sight of these children that he pledged all possible efforts to send the youngsters to Palestine.
Mr. Ben-Gurion is planning to leave here for Rumania shortly. He had been scheduled to depart for Bucharest last week, but has not yet received a Rumanian visa.
