Six more Jewish dead were discovered in various parts of Safed today, victims of the Arab onslaught on the Jewish population Thursday night. The burial of the dead has been delayed due to the fact that military protection has not yet been secured for the funeral procession.
Food was brought Saturday morning to the 3,000 Safed Jews who were gathered in the police courtyard to guard them against new attacks. A number of the refugees have been transferred from the courtyard to hotels and other places of safety. The military authorities had issued an order to evacuate the entire Jewish population from the city in order to prevent further outbreaks, but upon the protest of the Zionist Executive to High Commissioner Chandler the action was halted. Only women and children will be escorted out of the city.
