Sixteen central Jewish community organizations were named today as winners of different phases of the annual public relations contest sponsored by the Council of Jewish Federations and Welfare Funds, it was announced by Jack H. Mogulescu, chairman of the Council’s community publicity services committee. Mr. Mogulescu commended the federations for the high caliber and diversity of their public relations programs.
“At the suggestion of the panel of judges,” he said, “the Council will distribute sample copies of the prize-winning materials to help its member communities in the United States and Canada raise their standards and enrich their publicity and interpretation programs.”
The winning communities received citations of merit for the production of outstanding campaign and year-round interpretation materials, during the Council’s 32nd General Assembly here. This year’s winners of the CJFWF public relations contest received four special awards.
A special citation for the most exceptional program went to the Associated Jewish Charities of Baltimore for a public relations survey and the implementation of its recommendations. Other special awards went to: the Jewish Community Federation of Cleveland for its slide film, “The Adventures of Debby and Danny Dollar”; to the Federation of Jewish Philanthropies of New York, for its TV program, “The Stars Salute”; and to the Jewish Federation of Chicago for the radio series, “Cavalcade of Freedom.”
In addition, citations were presented to: the Jewish Federation-Council of Greater Los Angeles, the Federation of Jewish Agencies of Atlantic County, the Jewish Welfare Federation of Des Moines, the Combined Jewish Philanthropies of Greater Boston, the Jewish Welfare Fund of Cincinnati, and the Jewish Federation of Fort Worth. Associated Jewish Charities of Baltimore, Jewish Welfare Federation of Dallas, Jewish Federation of Southern Illinois, Federation of Jewish Agencies of Greater Philadelphia and Jewish Community Council of Richmond. The Jewish Federation of Camden County and the Jewish Federation of Hartford received honorable mention for their annual reports.
The Council’s panel of judges was composed of three eminent communications practitioners who have served as Jewish communal leaders for many years. They included: panel chairman Isidor Schifrin, a vice-president of the Schindler-Howard Advertising Agency in Cincinnati; Isadore Geldberg, head of the Goldberg Advertising Agency in Wilkes-Barre; and David Wermen, president of the Philadelphia advertising agency, Wermen & Schorr, Inc.
