The first honorary degree for achievements in Jewish life ever conferred by Smith College was awarded here to Mrs. Irving M. Engel, president of the National Council of Jewish Women, at ceremonies marking the institution’s 75th anniversary. Mrs. Engel was the recipient of an honorary degree of Master of Arts from the college, her alma mater.
