Smyrna Jews Complain Against Anti-jewish Riots

The occurrence of anti-Jewish outbreaks in Smyrna came to light when Ismet Pasha, Prime Minister of the Angora government, received a delegation of the Jewish community of Smyrna, complaining against the outbreaks.

Property belonging to Jews resident outside of Smyrna was seized on the pretext that the property was abandoned by the owners, the delegation related.

The Prime Minister promised to take measures in this regard, despatches from Angora stated.

Concerning the message of loyalty alleged to have been sent by Sephardic Jews to Spain, which caused great anti-Semitic agitation in Turkey, the Prime Minister stated he was certain the allegation had no foundation whatever.

According to the latest figures, the Jewish population in Constantinople amounts to 57,532.
