Philip Sterling, member of the state legislature from this city and an influential figure in the councils of the Republican party in Pennsylvania, on learning that he was scheduled to appear on the same platform with Congressman Louis T. McFadden, anti-Semite, at a political rally in Williamsport, immediately cancelled his engagement.
In a letter to the sponsors, Sterling made it clear that he will have nothing to do with McFadden even though he belongs to the same political party, and that under no condition will he speak on the same platform with him. The political rally in Williamsport is scheduled for next Saturday. Sterling’s action has deeply impressed the Republican leaders of Pennsylvania, who until now have been inclined to view with indifference protests voiced by various individuals and Jewish groups.
