The “grave anxiety” of South African Jewry of a policy of appeasement and surrender to the arrogant dictates” of Col. Nasser of Egypt was voiced last night at a mass rally at the Johannesburg City Hall.
The rally convened by the South African Zionist Federation, unanimously approved a resolution protesting against “any attempt to restore the status quo in the Middle East which exposed Israel to the danger of destruction.”
The resolutions called on the Western leaders working through the United Nations to assure Israel guarantees against renewed Egyptian fedayeen raids and an end to the Suez Blockade. The United Nations was urged not to permit Egypt’s return to the Gaza Strip The rally also protested the persecution of Egyptian Jews.
