F.C. Erasmus, South African Minister of Posts and Telegraphs, today sent an apology to Sam Kahn, a Jewish member of parliament, for having the post office accept and transmit a telegram containing anti-Semitic exprossions. The telegram was addressed to Mr. Kahn.
“This unhappy incident,” the Minister wrote to the Jewish deputy, “occurred because of injudicious action of a clerk at Hermanus who accepted the telegram. Although he hesitated over the permissibility of a telegram of such content, he neglected to consult his postmaster on the matter as laid down in the department regulations. Appropriate action will be taken against the official and I would like to register regret over the incident.
