Some 1,000 people demonstrated against anti-Semitism in Munich and showed support for a planned Jewish center. The site of the center allegedly was the target of a thwarted attack by right-wing extremists arrested in September. Construction on the center is to begin next month on the anniversary of Kristallnacht, the Nov. 9, 1938, pogrom in which hundreds of synagogues and other Jewish property were destroyed throughout Germany and Austria.
