Some 250 prominent Venezuelans from all walks of life have signed a declaration criticizing recent UNESCO measures to exclude Israel from many of the agency’s activities. The statement, which was addressed to the UNESCO director, and appeared in all of Caracas’ major dailies, contained the signatures of, among others, Marcos Falcon Briceno, advisor to Venezuelan President Carlos Andres Perez; Virginia Betancourt, daughter of former President Romulo Betancourt; and Rafael Jose Neri, the Communist rector of the Central University, Venezuela’s main institution of higher learning.
