The authorities today shut down the violently anti-Semitic newspaper ABC for publishing inciting reports of a Polish soldier’s alleged stabbing in the Jewish quarter and calling on Poles to avenge it.
The paper’s sensationally displayed story, which proved without foundation, provoked a panic in the Nalewki district, the city’s thickly populated Jewish section.
Only basis for the paper’s report was a drunken quarrel between a Polish and a Jewish soldier following which the former smashed windows of Jewish houses. Both were arrested.

The Polish Socialist daily Robotnik continues to publish subscription lists for victims of the riot. Today’s list includes a contribution of 300 zlotys (about $60) from Colonel Wienkowski.
Government authorities are understood to be considering the legality of “Aryan paragraph” resolutions recently adopted by a number of Polish unions of professionals. Legal opinion is believed unanimous in regarding the resolutions as unconstitutional. It has not yet been decided whether the Government will take any action.
