An appeal to the nations of the world to support Israel’s plea for the migration of Jews from Eastern European countries, was voiced here last night at a mass meeting of Johannesburg Jews sponsored jointly by the South African Board of Deputies and the Zionist-Federation of South Africa.
The meeting also adopted a resolution expressing “profound alarm” at the continuance of the Soviet anti-Israel campaign and Soviet attempts “to suppress Russian Jewry’s sense of unity with the Jewish people and Zion.” During the meeting several members of the audience heckled the speakers while other anti-Zionists distributed leaflets outside the meeting hall denying that the Soviet policy was anti-Semitic.
