Establishment of a free and independent Jewish state in Palestine was demanded last night by Minister of justice Colin Steyn, addressing a crowded Balfour Day meeting here. Representatives of the United States, Russia, China, the Netherlands, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Greece, Poland and Switzerland attended.
Creation of a Jewish state, Mr. Steyn said, should be effected through friendly cooperation with the Arabs, if possible. But, if the Arabs are unwilling to agree to a Jewish state, he continued, Palestine should be opened to unrestricted Jewish immigration and colonization which would eventually lead to a Jewish Commonwealth.
